What makes a lower-body machine worth using?

A useful machine should make the intended movement easier to set up and easier to repeat. That does not mean every exercise must be easy. It means the user can place their feet, support their body and apply force without spending half the session managing balance, discomfort or complicated adjustments.

The main decision is what you need the machine to do. A leg press is often chosen for general leg strength and heavier bilateral loading. Progression needs to be practical
